(Part-Time or Full-Time) (Brooklyn)
We are looking for help on all things creative and visual for two new retail apparel brands: Tombolo, a unisex tropical shirt company with an irreverent, escapist aesthetic, and Quaker Marine Supply Co., a 60-year-old nautical menswear brand that was re-imagined and re-launched by veteran retailer Kevin McLaughlin (founder of J. McLaughlin). Both companies launched in 2018 and share an office in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. (*Full description of both companies at bottom).
This is a paid position based in New York City that could be structured as a freelance part-time role or full-time. As a part-time role, there is flexibility to work remotely. You’ll largely work out of our offices in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, but we’ll also have a summer pop-up store in Manhattan.
As the Creative Design Summer Associate, you will have a flexible, entrepreneurial role supporting all creative pursuits across both brands, encompassing everything from social media content/marketing to product design itself. Working alongside the founders, you’ll also assist with long-term decision-making, branding, and design strategy.
...have superior photoshop and design skills. Ability to repurpose and reimagine visual assets. You’ll take on-model and product photography and adapt it into assets for the website, social media, promotional materials, advertising campaigns, etc.
…be able to adjust to different styles and media with a strong artistic eye
...be fluent in social media
...work with digital prints and artwork directly (re-color, re-imagine, tile, etc.)
...are skilled in photography/videography applicable to shooting product / lay-flats / on-model photoshoots
...are passionate about creating original artwork or artistic elements; designing/drawing components of prints or motifs for clothing
...understand color theory, typefaces, the intersection of design and corporate branding
...have marketing experience
…have retail experience
...have fine art experience
…experience designing or producing retail products
Structure / Responsibilities
The structure and responsibilities are flexible and we’ll adapt them to best suit the candidate’s strengths. Generally, we will pursue the following delineation between a part-time and full-time hire:
Part-time (e.g., ‘Creative Design Intern’): Responsibilities center on the creative pursuits described above. The need to work on-site rather than remotely is limited.
Full-time: (e.g. ‘Creative Design Manager’): A full-time job will encompass additional work (e.g., utilizing your photography skills, clothing design/production skills, and/or marketing skills), as well as serving as a retail associate in our summer pop-up for select days/hours. This could also encompass fulfillment/inventory responsibilities. A full-time role will come with much more limited ability to work remotely. Inability to work for a large portion of the summer season (May-August) could lend itself to part-time rather than a full-time hire.
Possibility of full-time employment beyond the summer.
Please submit your resume and a brief cover letter to firstname.lastname@example.org. Due to the volume of applications, we can't guarantee a response to all queries.
